Kim Kardashian’s massive diamond ring, which she flaunted for only a short amount of time before it was famously stolen from her private residence in Paris, was valued at approximately $4 million. Elizabeth Taylor’s jewelry collection, which included diamond tiaras and a ruby-and-diamond bib necklace, was said to be the most important private jewelry collection in America before much of it was auctioned by Christie’s for well over $100 million. And that’s only the beginning — the world’s most expensive gemstones easily rival the GDPs of quite a few countries. Their exorbitant prices reflect their quality and uniqueness, and as expected, diamonds top the charts. Among the world’s most expensive diamonds:
#1 White Diamond
In 2013, a 118.28-carat white oval diamond sold in Hong Kong for $30.8 million. Is that it? It’s the largest D color, flawless, type IIa of its kind to be put up for auction.
#2 The Zoe Diamond
A 9.75 carat fancy vivid blue diamond came up for auction at Sotheby’s in 2014. The Zoe diamond — the most expensive blue diamond in the world — sold for $32.6 million.
#3 The Orange
The largest fancy vivid orange diamond was auctioned by Christie’s in 2013 for a paltry $36 million. The Orange is a 14.82-carat, pear-shaped, vivid orange diamond.
#4 The Graff Pink
Pink diamonds will fetch higher prices than white diamonds. The 24.78 carat, fancy intense pink diamond known as the Graff Pink, is one of the world’s most famous. The emerald-cut sparkler went to famous London jeweler Laurence Graff for $45.75 million in 2010. It is considered a diamond type IIa — among the top two percent in the world’
#6 The Pink Star
The Pink Star is thought to be the most expensive piece of jewelry in the world. The oval-shaped, flawless, vivid pink diamond weighs 59.6 carats; it was cut and polished from a 132.5-carat rough diamond mined in Africa in 1999. The Pink Star was sold for $83 million at auction house Sotheby’s in 2013. The owner is smart enough to remain anonymous.
